As a child, Binyamin Taub grew up on President Street, just a few houses down from the Rebbe. His family was not Lubavitch, but living so close meant that he met the Rebbe often. In a recently shared video, he shared his story.

The Rebbe took a personal interest in him. When they met on the street, the Rebbe would stop him and speak with him, taking interest in his growth.

“He used to ask me what I’m learning in yeshiva,” Taub recalled. “He’d even ask me what I’m learning in English.”

The family later moved to Boro Park, and the years passed. Taub grew up, got engaged, and the Shabbos before his wedding, his aufruf fell out on Shabbos Bereishis after Simchas Torah. Remembering that the Rebbe would be giving out Kos Shel Bracha, he decided to make his way back to Crown Heights, join the line, and pass by the Rebbe before his wedding.

The Kos Shel Bracha line that Motzoei Shabbos stretched long into the night, as thousands upon thousands of people patiently waited their turn to pass before the Rebbe and receive a bit of wine from the Rebbe’s cup. Taub took his place among them, waiting his turn along with everyone else who had come.

When he finally reached the front and stood before the Rebbe, the Rebbe turned to the mashbak, Reb Meir Harlig, who was helping keep order in the line and handing out the cups, and told him:

“Far a shochen tov git men a greserer gloz” – “For a good neighbor, we should give a bigger cup.”

Needless to say, Taub was stunned. Just days before his wedding, the Rebbe remembered him and gave him an extra measure of bracha. That moment and the Rebbe’s words have remained with him until this day.
