Top medical experts from the New York area are thanking the Orthodox Community for stepping up in their time of need.

Though the entire members of the Jewish community donated much needed equipment, PPE, food for medical staff, and thousands lined up to donate plasma and save the lives of many critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Kenneth D. Gibbs, CEO of Maimonides Medical Center said “I’m speaking to thank Brooklyn’s Jewish community for the way it has stepped up in an outstanding fashion, whether it has been through donating dialysis machines, ventilators, PPE for our staff, food for our staff, it’s been phenomenal.”

Mary P. Leahy CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital in Long Island said “I want to personally thank the Jewish community for the incredible outpouring of love and support, volunteering time, supplying of PPE, oxygen concentrators and many other things. You have helped to save lives and for that, I am forever grateful.”

The President and CEO of Montefiore Nyack Hospital Mark Geller said that the Jewish community supplied them with equipment that they simply couldn’t get elsewhere. “We were short of PPE, we were short on medications, and the towns really stood up and helped supply us with necessary PPE, ventilators, medications that were in short supply, in a time that our community was desperately in need of all of those items. I just can’t be thankful enough because there was no other place for us to get them.”

If you would like to participate in these life-saving efforts, Ahavas Chesed and the New York Blood Center are partnering for a plasma and blood drive which will take place next Tuesday in Oholei Torah ballroom in Crown Heights.
