Thousands of Pairs of Glasses Donated to Ukrainian Jews

JRNU, Chabad’s rescue center in Ukraine is working with the American organization, RestoringVision to donate thousands of glasses to Ukrainian Jews. Opticians will also visit to make adjustments to the glasses when needed.

Due to the ongoing crisis, many of Ukraine’s Jews have entered into the circle of severe poverty. They are forced to prioritize their spending and reduce their expenses to the absolute minimum, which sometimes means not being able to even afford eyeglasses.

Thanks to a RestoringVision, a large American-based organization, many Ukrainian Jews will have the opportunity to get glasses whether they can afford them or not. The company has decided to donate thousands of pairs of glasses. Not only will they supply the glasses, but opticians will visit the Jewish communities weekly to make adjustments to the glasses as needed.

This project was organized by JRNU, Chabad’s rescue center in Ukraine. “The operation will make it easier for families to get glasses that match their needs and improve their vision without spending money they don’t have,” says Simcha Levanhartz, who is coordinating the project.

Implementing the project on the ground is difficult, due to the need to individually adjust the glasses for each person. Therefore, the community Rabbanim and shluchim have been circulating registration forms to all the communities, to ensure everybody can enjoy this unique project.
