Shliach Who Lost Both Legs Welcomes Sixth Son
Rabbi Liraz Zeira, the campus shliach in Yerushalayim and IDF reserve major who lost both legs after being severely wounded in battle, and his wife, Anat, welcomed their sixth son, bringing them comfort and healing.
A poignant event took place today at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, as Rabbi Liraz Zeira, the campus shliach in Yerushalayim and IDF reserve major who lost both legs after being severely wounded in battle, welcomed his sixth son together with his wife, Anat.
The baby boy, born on Monday, weighed 3.6 kilograms and joins five older brothers. Shaarei Tzedek said that four of the couple’s previous children were also born at the medical center.
Rabbi Zeira was severely wounded during reserve duty in October 2025, during fighting in Syria, in an explosion that left him critically injured and led to the amputation of both legs. Since then, he has undergone a long rehabilitation while continuing to strengthen others with words of emunah, courage, and determination.
Over the past months, Rabbi Zeira inspired many when he led hakafos from his hospital bed and later joined fellow shluchim in a triumphant dance at the Kinus Hashluchim, standing on prosthetic legs after months of surgery and rehabilitation.
Holding his newborn son after the birth, Rabbi Zeira recited hatov v’hametiv and shared his emotion over the new baby.
“Baruch Hashem, in a good and auspicious hour, a son was born to us, a little brother to our five sweet sons,” Rabbi Zeira wrote. “There is no greater recovery than this. There is no greater healing than this.”
He added that they hope to raise the child “to Torah, chuppa, and maasim tovim, with joy and gladness,” and that the birth should bring healing “to all of Am Yisroel and to our heroic soldiers.”
Rabbi Zeira also described the birth as healing after everything the family had endured.
“It is simply healing, simply an incredible and joyful feeling,” he said. “I wanted to share with all of you this wonderful gift that we received from Hashem. I want to bless all of Am Yisroel that, with Hashem’s help, you should all merit healing. As our sages say, ‘A son who is born heals the whole family.’ May you all merit to be healed from everything, and may we begin to rejoice together in each other’s simchas.”
In a statement from Shaarei Tzedek, Rabbi Zeira thanked Hashem “for a healthy and sweet baby” and expressed gratitude to the hospital staff “who accompanied us with incredible sensitivity and devotion.”
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us all this time and helped us in every possible way,” Rabbi Zeira said. “Thank you to all of Am Yisroel. Only simchas by everyone.”
