Rabbi Shimon Dahan, who served the Jewish community of Paris, France, as a rov, sofer and head shochet for decades, passed away on Tuesday, 20 Cheshvan.

He was 82 years old.

Born in Morocco, he was nine years old when he traveled to the city of Meknes and became one of the first students of Yeshivas Oholei Yosef Yitzchak, led by shliach Rabbi Michael Lipskier. He later went on to learn at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim of Brunoy.

Throughout his six years in yeshiva in Brunoy, he received close guidance from the Rebbe. The Rebbe instructed him to learn safrus and shechita, in addition to the regular seder at the yeshiva.

After he married in 5721, he served as a rov and shochet in Paris. He was later appointed head of the shochtim, a position he held for decades.

Under the Rebbe’s instruction, he led Tiferet Bochurim, where young working men got together every night to learn Torah and farbreng. In connection with this, he received an answer from the Rebbe in Sivan 5742, “Blessed is his portion and great is his merit that he has returned many to their Father in heaven.”

He is survived by his wife Beruria, and children Rabbi Eliyahu Dahan– Lille, France; Mrs. Chaya Sara Tawil– Rosario, Argentina; Rabbi Mikhael Dahan– Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Naomi Andrusier– Crown Heights; Mrs. Ruthy Benarroch– Crown Heights; Iza Berg– Crown Heights/Florida; Mrs. Chana Rosenblum– Lauderhill FL; David Dahan– Cleveland, OH; Daniel Dahan– Brunoy, France, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
