Rabbi Chaim Binyomin Burston, a longtime mechanech in Oholei Torah in Crown Heights and later in Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles, and creator of the famed “Rabbi Burston Story Tapes” passed away on Shabbos, Chai-Teves, 5784.

Rabbi Chaim Binyomin Burston, a longtime mechanech in Oholei Torah in Crown Heights and later in Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles, and creator of the famed “Rabbi Burston Story Tapes” passed away on Shabbos, Chai-Teves, 5784.

He was 72 years old.

Rabbi Burston was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and teacher. He was a beloved mentor and teacher to thousands of students over his decades of teaching.

Born in Pasadena, California, Chaim enrolled at Tel Aviv University, as an older teen. While in Eretz Yisroel, he was niskarev to Yiddishkeit and to Chabad. He then returned to New York to continue his studies, and it was there he met his wife and got married.

For over 20 years, he taught first grade in Oholei Torah, educating generations of children with a love of Torah and Yiddishkeit. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he began teaching first grade at Cheder Menachem.

A master storyteller, he was the creator of the famed “Rabbi Burston Story Tapes,” which told stories from Parsha, Nach, Gemara, Midrash, Rebbeim and Chassidim to countless children, and made “Rabbi Burston” a household name across the globe. He also recorded five collections of beautiful and haunting tunes entitled Jewish Mystical Melodies.

He is survived by his wife, Chana Baila, and his children: Pesach Burston – Orange County, NY; Rivkah Rochel Greenberg – Crown Heights; Yossi Burston – Los Angeles; Tzvi Burston – Los Angeles; Alti Burston – Los Angeles; Frumie Goodman – Crown Heights; Moshe Burston – Los Angeles; Miriam Burston – Los Angeles; and Dovi Burston – Los Angeles; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchilden.

The levaya will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, 19 Teves:
12:30 PM Pass by Cheder Menachem,
1:00 PM pass by Levi Yitzchak
2:00 PM Kevura at Home of Peace Memorial Park – 4334 Whittier Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90023.

Shiva will be observed by the family in Los Angeles at the Burston Residence, 339 N. Highland Ave, Los Angeles:

Sunday: Following Levaya
Monday-Thursday: 10AM-1PM, 7PM-9PM
Shachris: 9AM Mincha: 4:30PM followed by Maariv

Rabbi Pesach Burston will also be observing Shiva in his home on Wednesday and Thursday, 47 Highview Rd, Monroe, NY. Both Rabbi Pesach Burston and his sister Rivkah Rochel Greenberg will be observing Shiva Thursday evening and Friday morning in Crown Heights- 1414 Carroll St, Brooklyn.
