R’ Zelig Silberstein of the Chabad community in Antwerp, Belgium passed away Tuesday, 9 Iyar, 5782.

R’ Zelig Silberstein of the Chabad community in Antwerp, Belgium passed away Tuesday, 9 Iyar, 5782.

He was 59 years old.

Yehoshua Zelig Silberstein was the son of Rabbi Shmuel Meir and Batsheva Silberstein, the founders of Chabad community in Antwerp. He was the grandson of Reb Moshe Zalman Kaminetzky of Klimovich.

He was an instrumental player in his mother’s chessed work on behalf of the Jewish community and especially in her efforts for helping recently arrived immigrants from the Soviet Union.

Zelig excelled in the mitzvah of Kibud Av V’eim, helping his parents with all their needs, especially in their later years when their health began to fail.

He is survived by his siblings: Mrs. Risha Slavaticki – Antwerp, Rabbi Eli Silberstein – Ithaca, NY, and Mrs. Masha Vogel – Rochester, NY.

The Levaya will be held today in Antwerp and then in Israel, where he will be buried in Har Hazeisim.
