A newly released recording featuring Mrs. Esther Sternberg’s personal recollections of the Rebbetzin provides a rare and intimate glimpse into her life and character. In the recording, Mrs. Sternberg shares details of her many encounters with the Rebbetzin, reflecting on her warmth, wisdom, and eidelkeit.
Notably, she also speaks about the histalkus, which she was one of the only people in the world to witness firsthand.
“It’s been 36 years since Chof Beis Shevat, yet I feel like it happened yesterday,” Mrs. Sternberg began. “There’s no way that that day can be erased from my heart and mind for the rest of my life.”
Mrs Sternberg’s relationship with the Rebbetzin was deeply rooted in her father, R’ Zalman Gurary’s, close connection to the Rebbetzin, dating back to their time in Russia. As R’ Zalman’s only daughter, she developed a special bond with the Rebbetzin and was often involved in assisting her father, whose role was to care for her.
As a result, she gained a rare and personal view into the Rebbetzin’s life—one that few were privileged to witness—which she now shares in this recording.
The recording is being made available by Lubavitch Tapes archives.
