Overnight Missile Attack Kills 8, Chabad Yeshiva Suffers Damage

In a devastating pre-dawn barrage, Iran launched over 100 missiles at Israeli cities, killing eight and injuring hundreds. In Bnei Brak, several shuls were damaged, and the Chabad yeshiva was forced to close after sustaining damage from a nearby blast.

Early Monday morning, sirens blared across central and northern Israel warning of a major ballistic missile barrage launched from Iran. Starting shortly before 4:00 a.m., over 100 missiles were fired at key civilian population centers with the intent to cause maximum casualties. In what officials have called the most difficult night since the war began, six missiles penetrated Israel’s multi-layer defense systems and struck in Petach Tikva, Bnei Brak, Haifa, and Tel Aviv. Eight people were killed and at least 287 were wounded.

One of the missiles struck in the heart of Bnei Brak, landing near Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and causing extensive destruction throughout the surrounding area. “The powerful blast also caused damage to the yeshiva building,” the hanhala reported. “Doors and windows were ripped from their frames and shattered, and plaster and acoustic ceilings collapsed,” they described. “It was only by great hashgacha pratis that the temimim were not in the yeshiva at the time.”

Despite the damage, learning continues uninterrupted. “We will continue and strengthen our learning via Zoom,” the hanhala wrote, encouraging parents to ensure their sons’ full participation and maintain proper chassidishe conduct. Looking ahead, the yeshiva shared, “We hope to return quickly to a regular schedule of in-person learning at the yeshiva,” and affirmed their commitment to “swift and thorough repairs, for the benefit of the temimim.”

The explosion caused a partial collapse at a nearby residential complex. After a rescue operation, the body of an elderly man was recovered, with MDA personnel confirming his death at the scene. Twenty-one others were injured in the area, including two in moderate condition.

The worst damage occurred in Petach Tikva, where a missile hit a residential high-rise and impacted between two reinforced security rooms (mamadim), killing four elderly residents – two men and two women. The IDF clarified: “While mamadim protect effectively against nearby blasts and shrapnel, they are not engineered to withstand a direct ballistic missile impact.” Thirty-eight others were injured in the building, one critically and several others moderately.

In Haifa, a missile hit a mixed-use industrial zone. Three people were later found dead following extensive searches. Several others sustained light and moderate injuries.

In Tel Aviv, while no fatalities were reported, a ten-year-old boy and a newborn baby were seriously injured. In what was a close call for officially drawing the United States into the war, the impact of the missile shattered glass in the U.S. Embassy compound, causing structural damage but no casualties among diplomatic personnel.

A member of Anash whose home was just two buildings from the impact site described the destruction: “The entire house was destroyed.” When he returned to inspect the wreckage, “only the Rebbe’s picture remained intact.” He added, “We experienced a great miracle. They rescued us from the house. May Hashem help us.”

Magen David Adom reported a total of 287 injuries: one in critical condition, thirteen moderate, 240 light, eleven suffering from shock, and twenty-five under evaluation. Sirens were activated across much of the country, including in Haifa, Petach Tikva, Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Herzliya, Ashkelon, Be’er Sheva, and Eilat. Municipalities opened emergency centers and shelters, while the Home Front Command issued a renewed warning: “The Home Front Command has reissued its warning, urging residents to remain in shelters due to potential missile attacks. Stay near protected areas.”

As part of Operation Rising Lions, and in response to the attacks, IDF fighter jets struck dozens of high-value targets across Iran, with over the past 72 hours, more than 720 military infrastructure targets destroyed, including Quds Force and IRGC command centers, long-range missile launchers, and logistical facilities. The IDF announced that it had achieved full air superiority over Tehran and disabled approximately one-third of Iran’s active long-range missile systems.

Despite the tragic outcomes of the morning attack, surface-to-air missile crews south of Tehran were eliminated just seconds before they could fire, thereby preventing additional waves of ballistic missiles from being launched toward Israeli population centers.

Defense Minister Yisrael Katz remarked on the deadly Iranian attacks: “The dictator in Tehran has become a cowardly murderer who fires directly at Israel’s civilian home front in order to deter the IDF from continuing its campaign, which is collapsing his capabilities. The residents of Tehran will pay the price.” He later clarified: “There is no intention to physically harm the residents of Tehran. They will simply be evacuated from areas where it is necessary to strike regime targets and security infrastructure.”

The Home Front Command has extended the civilian emergency status through the end of the month and continues to urge the public to remain alert and follow all safety protocols.

  1. A building suffering damage (even being the Chabad Yeshiva) shouldn’t be in the same title as 8 victims HYD. A bit insensitive to the victims, IMHO
