A new Sefer Torah was completed on Sunday in Whitefield, England, in memory of Rabbi Yehuda Yaakov Refson, the senior Shliach in Leeds and head of the regional Beis Din.

The Torah was dedicated by Chabad of Whitefield, led by Rabbi Refson’s daughter and son-in-law Rabbi Shmuli and Sara Jaffe.

After inscribing the final letters, the new Sefer Torah was paraded through the streets with music, singing, and dancing, followed by the customary Hakafos and Seudas Mitzvah.

A local band led the way, and one after another, members of the community emotionally grasped the Torah and walked with it under the festive chuppah.

Rabbi Refson was a prolific scholar and educator who led Shomrei Hadass Synagogue in Leeds, England, and together with his wife, Ettel, directed the Leeds Menorah School.
