Rabbi Mendel and Rochel Alperowitz have been appointed to open a new Chabad Center in Falmouth Massachusetts; located in upper Cape Cod. They will serve the local Jewish community, including Woods Hole.

The young Alperowitz family will work alongside their parents, Rabbi Yekusiel and Devorah Alperowitz, who have been serving the Cape Cod community for the past twenty-eight years. They will also assist in expanding the Chabad work in the greater Cape Cod area.

Falmouth is home to hundreds of Jews year round, with an extra influx of tourists, vacationers and second home owners in the summer months. Woods hole has several marine oceanographic universities where Jewish students attend. As of now the only Jewish institution in the area is a reform temple. Rabbi Mendel and Rochel will coordinate Chabad programs and reach out to form personal connections with Jews in the area. The existing Chabad Center on the Cape is a 40 minute drive away from Falmouth.

Mendel grew up on Shlichus on the Cape. He studied in various Chabad Yeshivas and received Semicha in the Yeshiva at the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva 770. After Marriage he studied in Kolel in Crown Heights and subsequently in the Chabad Kolel in New Haven.

Rochel (nee Morozow) was born and raised in Crown Heights. She received her education and graduated from the Beis Rivkah schools and seminary. She is a Teacher and has taught in Chabad Schools in Crown Heights and in Southern Connecticut.

“We are excited and eager to spread Torah-true Yiddishkeit in the area and to help build the Jewish Community”, said Rabbi Mendel. “Especially at this difficult time for the Jewish people as a whole, due to the current situation in Israel, more Jews are searching to reconnect to their roots and tradition. We are privileged to have the opportunity to do our part to bring goodness, truth, warmth and light of Torah and Chassidus to the world.”

They were appointed by Rabbi Yekusiel and Devorah Alperowitz, head Shluchim of Cape Cod and the Islands.
