A new program by JNet encouraging women to join, both as volunteers and as students, was started as a result of a request by JNet director Rabbi Yudi Dukes, and as a way to help his wife, Sara Dukes, “add in even more light”.

The program aims to create a women’s JNet “community”, providing resources and encouragement for volunteers, and to remove any obstacles that might stand in the way of joining.

“JNet is Rabbi Dukes’ baby, and anything we could do for its success would surely give him a boost,” organizers told Anash.org. “In addition, we want to help Sarah Dukes add even more light, in addition to all the Tehillim that’s being said, and the incredible achdus we are experiencing, to bring about a refuah shleima for Rabbi Dukes.”

Rabbi Levi Meijers, interim Director of JNet, told Anash.org that on one hand, JNet is very much in need of women volunteers at the moment, but on the other hand, many women are looking for ways to join, in the merit of Rabbi Dukes.

Rabbi Meijers says that the new project is actually a result of a direct request by Rabbi Dukes.

“The last few times I spoke to him, he requested that we set up a JNet ‘community’ for volunteers,” he said. “This was as Rabbi Dukes was in the hospital fighting for his health, yet he never stopped thinking about JNet.”

Soon after Rabbi Dukes asked to build the JNet community, he had another medical complication and ended up back in the hospital. Looking for things to do in his merit, two women from Crown Heights reached out to JNet and asked to make a WhatsApp group to facilitate communication and make resources available for volunteers.

“We felt that this would be a big step towards making Yudi’s dream come true,” Rabbi Meijers said.

“May Hashem help that all of the light generated keep Chaim Schneur Zalman Yehuda Ben Hinda Yocheved firmly grounded in this world, getting healthier and stronger every day so he may come home to his family and continue his holy Shlichus in this world,” organizers said.
