My Fellow Bochurim, Please Join Me

From the Anash.org Inbox: A bochur who practices what he preaches pens a heartfelt plea to his fellow bochurim to join him in being honest with themselves this Elul and do what is good for them.

Dear fellow bochurim,

If you are a bochur and have a smartphone on you, please read on.

I am going to remain anonymous to the broader public, but believe me my circle of chaveirim knows exactly who I am….

I want to speak to bochurim of all ages who use a smartphone. Because let’s be honest, if I am a Yeshiva Bochur that carries a smartphone with me, does it really make a difference if I’m in Zal, on shlichus, or in 770?

We are the bochurim of תשפ”ה.

We are on the front lines of all doing the Rebbe’s rotzon.

How about we just feif un Olam Hazeh and put off using a smartphone a little longer?

Yes, we know all the excuses. Who better than us who have been coming up with them for years?

Not because Hanholo said no, but because we know it’s not good for us.

How about if we just say no to the strong pull?

What if we told ourselves that in spite of all the “good things” that they do, it just isn’t worth the price we end up paying (sooner rather than later)?

Even Olam Hazeh is coming around now with young people becoming disgusted with a life enslaved to a smartphone and whatever it decides life is going to have to offer us that day, that hour, that minute, instead of us deciding how to spend our time…

We the bochurim can do this!

How about it  — this Chodesh Elul?

Ksiva vachasima tova,

A bochur who is practicing what he’s preaching and upgraded to a flip phone after a year and a half of using a smartphone.

  1. The author could have wrote a bit more detailed and better, but it’s still proving a point.
Let’s all – me included – drop the smartphone we have now, and get on with life! Most Bochurim are hooked to the screens, most times even on not the best things… וד”ל. But we have to get ahold of ourselves and give it up, before it is too late!
    May this bring Moshiach now!!!!!!
    עד מתי!!
Rebbe! Enough tests! We want to see you, in all your glory!

  2. There’s actually this new popular flip phone, with a bunch of Kosher apps that has recently gone popular. It’s called Kosher V’yosher, I think. It’s worth getting it, it has a bunch of good features like talk-to-text, a mouse for apps that work better with it, and a really good music player. You can also choose which option you want, like just talk and text, or also music and video. It’s highly recommended.

  3. these days there are so many new completely Kosher phones talk only, text, basic apps (uber, waze, weather etc) some of them are
    Fig
    Qin
    TCL flip
    Kyocera
with many having different models and versions for different needs

As a shliach, and other reasons, I think I need bankings apps, whtsapp and several other time wasting programs.
Yet my main phone is a talk and text device.
All other apps can be accessed thru my computers and other devices.
It is much easier to devote time to many general shlichus associated work this way! AND it helps with most important: reaching ppl deeply too!
