Mid-Week Fast Continues Unique Tradition

Members of Moscow’s Chevra Kadisha headed by Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar were joined by volunteers of ‘Zaka Russia’ for their annual fast day and seudas mitzva held on the 15th of Kislev.

Members of Moscow’s Chevra Kadisha headed by Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar and volunteers of ‘Zaka Russia’ joined for their annual fast day and seudas mitzva held on the 15th of Kislev.

It is an age old custom that members of the Chevra Kadisha observe the 15th of Kislev as a fast day, with Krias Hatorah and slichos. After davening, the member travel to the cemetery to recite special prayers there.

During the seudas mitzva at the conclusion of the fast, Rabbi Lazar spoke about the greatness of the mitzva of burying the dead, and thanked all the volunteers for the mesirus nefesh they show for their holy work, especially this year during to the coronavirus.
