On Motzoei Shabbos, 13 Iyar, the Melbourne Anash community came together for a special celebration at Yeshivah Gedolah. A festive Melava Malka was held to celebrate the siyum on the entire Shas by Tzvi Levitin, one of the Talmidei Hashluchim at the yeshiva.
The event drew a large crowd from across the community. Speakers included Rabbi Shlomo Kohn, rov of Adas Yisroel; Rabbi Feitel Levin, Rosh Yeshiva of the Melbourne semicha program; and Rabbi Shmuel Lesches of Yeshivah Gedolah. Also addressing the crowd were Rabbi Mendel Shusterman, the mesayem’s grandfather, and his father, Rabbi Pinny Levitin of Beis Menachem in Kingston, Pennsylvania, who flew in to take part in the celebration.
The speakers highlighted the Rebbe’s words about the deep joy and importance of a siyum — that it’s a simcha greater than anything else. They emphasized the Rebbe’s encouragement to publicize Siyumim—“mitzvah lefarsem osei mitzvah”—to inspire others to strengthen their own learning. Bochurim in the yeshiva were encouraged to complete the masechta they are currently learning, Maseches Kesubos, by year’s end.
The program also featured a special video presentation of the Rebbe making a siyum.
