Gaaguim Releases Stirring Kremenchuger Farbrengen Niggun

In honor of Elul, Project Gaaguim, led by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar, has released the Kremenchug Farbrengen Niggun, a deeply expressive Chabad melody preserved from the historic Chassidic community of Kremenchug, Ukraine.

For generations, the Ukrainian city of Kremenchug was home to a prominent community of Chabad Chassidim, including Chassidim known for their depth in Chassidus, warmth of heart and rich Chassidishe life.

The character of Kremenchug found expression in its niggunim as well. Marked by depth, emotion and hisorerus, the melodies carried the spirit of the Chassidim who sang them at farbrengens and in moments of avoda.

Among them was the Kremenchug Farbrengen Niggun, also known as the Kremenchuger Niggun, a stirring melody preserved from the singing of the Chossid R’ Nachum Goldschmidt.

R’ Avraham Lisson would sing Ki Rega B’Apo to this melody during davening. The niggun was also sung by Chassidim to the words of Baruch Keil Elyon at the Shabbos table.

The niggun was later included in Sefer Haniggunim as Niggun 200, becoming part of the documented collection of Chabad niggunim.

With its measured movement and deeply contemplative character, the niggun is especially suited to Elul, a month associated with reflection, hisorerus and preparation for the coming Yomim Noraim.

The newly released recording is sung by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar, with arrangement by R’ Oved Munis. R’ Mordechai Brotzky performs violin and handled the musical production, with consultation and guidance from Rabbi Chaim Weiss.

The recording was produced by Gaaguim, the Lubavitch Institute of Niggunim.
