‘Help Them Cross the Finish Line’: Shluchim Rally for Sheepshead Bay
Shliach Rabbi Sholom Moshe Paltiel has come out urging anash to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy a permanent home for Chabad of Sheepshead Bay.
With the closing set for today, Chai Elul, Rabbi Sholom Moshe Paltiel, shliach to Port Washington, is urging Anash to rally behind the Sheepshead Bay shluchim and help them cross the finish line, with $550,000 still urgently needed to complete the purchase.
The shluchim have the opportunity to purchase an 8,000-square-foot corner property directly adjacent to their Chabad House, currently owned by a church, and transform it into a permanent home for Torah, tefillah and Yiddishkeit.
Sheepshead Bay is home to tens of thousands of Yidden, the vast majority from the former Soviet Union, and the shluchim have long outgrown their current space. They need room to welcome more families, expand their programs, and build the facilities their growing community desperately needs.
This property changes all of that.
With Hashem’s help, it would allow them to build a large shul welcoming hundreds more people, a much-needed Mikvah, a social hall, Hebrew School and preschool facilities, and room to serve thousands of families.
But first, they have to close.
Baruch Hashem, tremendous progress has already been made, but the campaign has now reached an emergency situation. The purchase price is $1.9 million, and $550,000 is still missing.
The closing is scheduled for today, Chai Elul, Monday, August 31, the birthday of both the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe.
The Sheepshead Bay shluchim say this is an opportunity they may never have again. If the purchase falls through, they could lose the property and the $190,000 deposit already committed to the purchase.
For one shliach and one community, raising $550,000 at the final moment can feel impossible. But together, it is possible.
Every donor becomes a partner in the Mikvah, the children who will learn there, the simchas that will be celebrated there, the tefillos that will be davened there, and the thousands of Yidden who will be served by the expanded center.
With the closing now upon them, Rabbi Paltiel and fellow shluchim are calling on Anash worldwide to help Chabad of Sheepshead Bay complete the purchase today.
