A major fire late Monday afternoon gutted at least one apartment in a building on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Empire Blvd. in Crown Heights, prompting tens of fire trucks and ambulances to rush to the scene.

A major fire late Monday afternoon gutted at least one apartment in a building on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Empire Blvd. in Crown Heights.

The fire was reported shortly before 6:00 PM, prompting tens of fire trucks, ambulances and Hatzalah cars to rush to the scene, shutting down Empire Blvd. between Albany and Brooklyn Avenues.

Flames and smoke from the building were seen for blocks around, with plumes of smoke clouding the skies in the immediate area. Firefighter confirmed that the fire was in a top-floor apartment, and numerous firefighters were seen on the roof fighting the blaze.

At 6:39 PM, firefighters at the scene advised that the fire had come under control, and at 7:15 they confirmed that the fire had been fully extinguished. Nonetheless, Empire Blvd. remained closed for a lengthy amount of time afterwards as the building was searched for injured.
