‘Farbrengen Tank’ Brings Light to Teens Over Gimmel Tammuz Weekend

Many stopped in their tracks walking down Kingston Avenue on Gimmel Tammuz, staring at a U-Haul truck that had been transformed into a Farbrengen Tank, alive with Crown Heights youth in a late-night meaningful farbrengen, singing stirring niggunim and immersed in meaningful conversation.

From Motzei Shabbos through Sunday night, the “Farbrengen Tank” initiative, run by Gavriel Kollin, made a powerful impact on dozens of Crown Heights teens. Stationed in a vibrant, mobile space filled with music, food, and heartfelt conversations, the tank became a haven for connection and inspiration.

The project, spearheaded in honor of Gimmel Tammuz, created an environment where teens could open up, farbreng late into the night, and tap into the Rebbe’s vision in a way that felt real and relevant. Burgers, sushi, and niggunim fueled meaningful discussion about purpose, struggle, and identity—all without judgment.

Here is a word from the director: “I saw how on the streets of Crown Heights the boys and girls were hanging out on this corner doing who knows what! Something had to be done, especially for Gimmel Tammuz. So we turned this U-Haul into a Fabrengan Tank and parked right where the kids need it the most.”

Parents, bochurim, and mashpi’im who visited noted the difference it made. Teens left uplifted, with many expressing that it was the first time they felt truly seen in months. The success of the Farbrengen Tank reflects a growing need for programs that speak directly to today’s youth, especially those navigating inner battles.
