Driver Hits Chabad Lag Baomer Parade in Be’er Sheva
Three people, including a 4-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital after a driver struck participants at a Chabad Lag B’Omer parade in Be’er Sheva, with police saying the incident appears to have been an accident and not terror-related.
Three people were lightly injured Monday evening when a vehicle drove into participants at a Chabad Lag B’Omer parade organized by Chabad in Be’er Sheva.
The incident took place on Avigdor Hameiri Street in the city’s Neve Ze’ev neighborhood, where children and families were taking part in the annual Lag B’Omer parade in honor of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.
According to initial reports from the scene, the vehicle broke through police barriers and drove into the crowd. Police forces arrived shortly afterward and arrested the driver, a resident of the Negev.
Magen David Adom said the call came in at 7:57 PM. Paramedics treated the injured at the scene and took three people to Soroka Medical Center, including a 4-year-old girl with a head injury, a 19-year-old, and a woman around 40.
Several others were checked and treated at the scene for minor bruises.
Hebrew media reported that police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Police are continuing to investigate, but the current assessment is that the crash was an accident and not a terror attack.
No serious injuries were reported.
