Three people were lightly injured Monday evening when a vehicle drove into participants at a Chabad Lag B’Omer parade organized by Chabad in Be’er Sheva.

The incident took place on Avigdor Hameiri Street in the city’s Neve Ze’ev neighborhood, where children and families were taking part in the annual Lag B’Omer parade in honor of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai.

According to initial reports from the scene, the vehicle broke through police barriers and drove into the crowd. Police forces arrived shortly afterward and arrested the driver, a resident of the Negev.

Magen David Adom said the call came in at 7:57 PM. Paramedics treated the injured at the scene and took three people to Soroka Medical Center, including a 4-year-old girl with a head injury, a 19-year-old, and a woman around 40.

A yeshiva student jumped onto the car in an attempt to stop the incident.

Several others were checked and treated at the scene for minor bruises.

Hebrew media reported that police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol and that, at this stage of the investigation, the crash is being treated as an accident rather than a terror attack.

However, bystanders who participated in the Chabad event said they believe it was most likely terror-related.

“There’s no way,” said Mrs. Bruria Efune, whose husband and daughter witnessed the car drive into the crowd. “The car managed to weave perfectly past the police blockade, through the police motorcade escort, and then out again.”

No serious injuries were reported.

After the initial panic and confusion settled, Chabad continued the event, and the children went back to playing. Many were seen dancing with great joy, thanking Hashem for the miraculous events they had just witnessed.
