Cunningham and Mamdani Reunite Amid Anti-Israel Bill

Crown Heights Assemblyman Brian Cunningham met this weekend with NYC socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani at City Hall, raising major questions for Jewish residents and Brooklyn voters.

This comes as Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) lawmakers continue pushing Assembly Bill A11289, the controversial “Not on Our Dime Act,” first introduced by then-Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and backed by anti-Israel activists in Albany.

The bill would target New York-based charities and nonprofit organizations connected in any way to Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank). It would empower the NY Attorney General to investigate organizations, sue them, seek financial penalties, and allow private lawsuits against charities accused of supporting “Israeli settlement” activity. Critics say the bill is an unprecedented attempt to weaponize New York State law against pro-Israel and Jewish organizations.

The legislation sparked outrage across New York’s Jewish community, with many warning it could open the door to politically motivated investigations against synagogues, yeshivas, charities, and nonprofit groups connected to Israel. Even many Democrats in Albany reportedly distanced themselves from the bill, and Assembly leadership never brought it to a floor vote.

NYS Assemblyman Brian Cunningham has long maintained close political ties with Mamdani and the DSA movement. Cunningham was viewed as one of the early Brooklyn elected officials aligned with Mamdani, who politically and publicly supported and endorsed Mamdani’s rise in NYC politics and his mayoral effort.

Now constituents in Crown Heights and throughout the 43rd Assembly District deserve answers:

Will Brian Cunningham stand with the Jewish community and vote AGAINST the “Not on Our Dime Act”? Or will he side with his political ally and former Assembly colleague Zohran Mamdani and support the DSA agenda in Albany?

Residents of Kingston and Brooklyn Avenues in Crown Heights questioned if Assembly member Cunningham utilized this visit to attempt to squash the controversial NYC proposed CH protected bike lanes, a major safety concern which Cunningham wrote a support letter for to the New York City Department Of Transportation against the community, angering local yeshiva parents.

For Crown Heights and East Flatbush residents to vote for a member of anash, NYS Assembly candidate Ahron Gluck, in next month’s Democratic primary election, you must be registered as a Democrat:
