Beis Din Cautions Against Eating Red Peppers

The Vaad Hakashrus of the Crown Heights Beis Din issued an urgent warning that many red peppers being sold in Crown Heights stores and distributed by organizations are products of Shemitta and forbidden to eat.

The Vaad Hakashrus of the Crown Heights Beis Din issued an urgent warning regarding the use of red peppers that are being sold in Crown Heights stores and distributed by organizations.

Many of these peppers are grown in Israel and are thus forbidden to eat due to Shemitta.

“We would like to inform the public that red peppers sold in the tri-state area and in the Crown Heights neighborhood, or given out by some of the organizations giving out food are from shemitta and it’s forbidden to eat them,” the Beis Din wrote in a statement.

The prohibited produce is labeled “Product of Israel.” If you have them in your home, you should allow them to go bad before disposing of them. For more information, you may call the Vaad at 917-440-8991
