94 Beis Moshe Secures Property for Future Shul Building

On Thursday, 94 Beis Moshe (which serves 270 young Anash families in Crown Heights) closed on a large property encompassing 552 – 546 E New York Ave. The site currently houses a 5,400-square-foot building. 

The purchase was made possible by the contributions and pledges of the shul’s 270 member families under the age of 35. To bring this dream within the bounds of reality, 94 Beis Moshe sold 552 E. New York to a local Anash homeowner; turning down significantly higher offers by outside developers with plans to build a micro-unit high-rise that would not serve our community.

Led by the shul’s rov and mashpia Rabbi Meir Shur, 94 Beis Moshe has become a hub of shiurim, farbrengens, and family events that Crown Heights families under 35 have come to rely on. “We farbreng for two hours here every Shabbos,” Rabbi Shur says. “This building project itself was born at a Yud Alef Nissan farbrengen.” 

It’s also grown into a bustling center of Torah. “There are all different types of shiurim happening in the shul,” says longtime member Noach Hurwitz. “Whether it’s halacha, gemara, chassidus, or history; there’s truly a tremendous amount of opportunity here.” 

After Musaf each week, Rabbi Mordy Cadaner gives a shiur on Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Sunday mornings feature Sunday Kollel, with a kids’ program, shiur and breakfast. Rabbi Shur gives a Chassidus shiur before the daily Shacharis minyan, all while chavrusa learning and regular shiurim throughout the week take place under the banner of The New Beis Midrash.

The shul will celebrate its first Siyum Sefer Torah in the coming weeks. 

The new building will provide much-needed space for a proper women’s section and a home for the shul’s growing roster of women’s programming. “We’re so excited to grow our women’s community and expand our programs in this beautiful new space,” says member Leah Liberow. “We look forward to creating a place where women can connect, learn, inspire one another, and grow as a community.”

Whether it’s monthly family rallies in parks, women’s events, gemachs and loans to support families in need, or meal trains for families welcoming newborn children, 94 Beis Moshe has become a community that young families belong to and feel a part of. “I’m so happy to be part of a community that’s building something so special together,” says member Manya Sperlin.

“Securing a permanent home for the shul means we can put down roots here in Crown Heights,” says member Hershy Gutnick. “Having the shul has made it easier for ourselves and other young families in our position to picture a bright future here, and that deserves to be permanent.”

“It’s very important and special for me and my family to know that we’ll have a permanent place to daven, to learn, to celebrate our family’s milestones with friends and community,” says longtime member Mendel Jacobson, adding, “With the purchase of this building, we know that our community has a future here, a place to build on everything we’ve built until now.”
