A four-month-old baby was rushed to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon after being left in a closed vehicle for an extended period of time in the sweltering heat in Kfar Chabad.

Emergency medical teams from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah were dispatched to the Shikunim neighborhood of Kfar Chabad shortly after 3:00 PM. First responders provided lifesaving treatment at the scene before rushing the infant to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Medical Center. The baby was unconscious and suffering from signs of severe heatstroke, and his condition was defined as critical and unstable.

MDA motorcycle unit paramedics, together with senior medic Yossi Nabul, described the scene.

“When we arrived, we were led to the baby, who had an altered level of consciousness after spending a long time inside a closed vehicle,” they said. “We performed an initial medical assessment and noticed that he was extremely hot to the touch. We provided initial medical treatment and evacuated him in an intensive care ambulance to the hospital, with his condition defined as serious and unstable.”

Chaim Meir Friedman, head of the Kfar Chabad branch of United Hatzalah, along with medics Eli Tornheim, Itzik Schiff, and Chaim Rivkin, said, “We were told at the scene that the baby had been forgotten in the car and remained there for a prolonged period of time. We provided initial medical assistance, after which he was transported to the hospital unconscious and in critical condition.”

With the summer months beginning, and New York temperatures expected to reach the 90s this week with forecasts predicting a warmer-than-usual summer ahead, parents, drivers, and the broader public are reminded to exercise extra caution. Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can rise dangerously fast, and children should never be left unattended in a car, even for a moment. People passing parked cars are also encouraged to remain alert and check that no children have been left inside.

Please say Tehillim for the complete and speedy recovery of Chaim ben Chaya Mushka.
