Young Remsen Village Community Dedicates New Mikvah

The Lubavitch community of Remsen Village marked a major milestone on Sunday with the dedication of the Rabin Family Mikvah. Founded a decade ago, the community has grown to 250 families and continues to expand, three years after the purchase of its community center and shul.

The Lubavitch community of Remsen Village marked a major milestone this past Sunday, Erev Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5786, with the dedication of a men’s mikvah – the Rabin Family Mikvah – housed in the community’s building at 305 Remsen Ave.

The achievement comes ten years after the founding of the Remsen Village Lubavitch community, which today comprises 250 families and continues to grow, and three years after the purchase of the community center and shul that now serves as its hub.

Over the past year, many local families contributed generously toward the mikvah’s construction. A particularly generous contribution came from the Rabin family of Detroit, Michigan, whose daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren are members of the community—a gift that inspired the naming of the mikvah in their honor.

Community members, donors, and supporters gathered outside the community center, where the program began with the reading of a letter from the Rebbe. The letter was read by Rabbi Moshe Gedalya Halperin, the halachic authority who oversaw the mikvah’s construction under the guidance of Rabbi Avraham Osdoba of the Crown Heights Beis Din. Warm remarks were shared by R’ Aharon Roth, who invested much time, effort, and funding into bringing about this historic event.

The ceremony continued with a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a dedication plaque near the mikvah. A mezuzah was affixed by R’ Zevi Steinhauser, who dedicated the mezuzah and contributed generously to the mikvah in memory of his dear father R’ Yakov Steinhauser AH. Guests were then invited to tour the newly completed facility.

The celebration moved indoors for a beautifully arranged seudas mitzvah featuring an elaborate fleishig buffet, with separate sections for men and women. The Rebbe’s kapitel was read by Rabbi Yitzchok Holtzman of the nearby East Flatbush community, and the Rebbetzin’s kapitel was led by Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Zarchi, who represented Rabbi Dovid Fisher—a significant contributor to the mikvah who also pledged a generous donation toward the upcoming mikvah tahara.

Remarks were delivered by Rabbi Yerachmiel Rabin, Rabbi Dovid Nissan Jacobs, Rabbi Shmuel Aber, and Rabbi Levi Gajer, who emphasized the important place of a men’s mikvah in the growth of a community and the great milestone this represented. A video of the Rebbe about mikvah was shown as well, arranged by R’ Mendel Gourarie of JEM and longtime resident of the community.

With the men’s mikvah now complete, the community’s next project is the construction of a mikvah tahara, enabling this crucial foundation of Jewish life comfortably and locally. To become a partner in this exciting new project, click here.
