California Mogul Arrested After Terror Threats at Neighbor Shliach
A unhinged California mogul, whose multimillion-dollar mansion is next door to Chabad, hurled terror threats and libels at shliach Rabbi Zushe Cunin, including accusing him of burning down the Palisades.
An unhinged California mogul was arrested after threatening terror threats and hurling antisemitic insults at the shliach at the Chabad house next door to his multimillion-dollar property.
The $5.275 million mansion next to Chabad of the Pacific Palisades was bought three months ago by Bruce Lion, an heir to Lion Raisins, which touts “five generations of greatness” and “120 years of growing experience and expertise.”
In the few months since moving in, videos obtained by the California Post have shown Bruce Lion harassing his neighbor, Rabbi Zushe Cunin, from the balcony of his mansion, screaming nonsensical grievances he has with the Jewish people or with Rabbi Cunin, including accusing them of burning down the Palisades, and interrupting events at the Chabad house while shouting antisemitic statements in front of children.
“It was horrific,” Rabbi Cunin said. “I’ve never experienced it, especially in front of kids. Little children. In this country, to have to see this kind of hatred and antisemitism is just unacceptable.”
Lion also claimed that Rabbi Cunin was “hiding bodies” on his property.
On Friday, the day of his arrest, Cunin said that Lion repeatedly called him in the middle of the night. When he finally picked up, he said Lion launched into a tirade: “Guess what? Iran is coming to get you. You should move out.”
After repeated complaints to the police, the LAPD arrested him, and he was charged with making terror threats and held on $50,000 bail.
“The hate and harassment directed at a rabbi and members of his congregation in Pacific Palisades is reprehensible and deeply disturbing,” City Councilwoman Traci Park, whose district covers the Palisades, told The California Post. “We appreciate LAPD taking these concerns seriously and acting swiftly to protect our community. Let me be clear: hate has no home in Pacific Palisades, in Council District 11, or anywhere in the City of Los Angeles.”
The 64-year-old Lion has a lengthy criminal record and has been arrested and served jail time on multiple occasions, including for criminal threats, domestic violence, vandalism, throwing rocks at cars, and assaulting construction workers.
