Over the past several weeks, thousands of names poured into the central offices of Chabad of Kazakhstan.

Each belonged to someone named for the gaon, mekubal and fearless Jewish leader Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, father of the Rebbe.

In a deeply moving moment, the shluchim of Kazakhstan brought the full list to Reb Levi Yitzchok’s tziyun, together with a report on the flourishing work of the Chabad Houses across the country.

The names and the report carried one unmistakable message:

Reb Levi Yitzchok, you won.

The Soviets exiled him in an attempt to silence his voice. His life was cut short by the suffering and illness that followed, and he was laid to rest far from the Jewish centers of his time, in a golus within a golus.

Today, the Soviet Union lies in the dustbin of history, while Reb Levi Yitzchok’s legacy grows stronger with every passing year. Thousands bear his name, Torah and Yiddishkeit flourish across Kazakhstan, and the land of his exile has become a center of Jewish life.
