Watch: 9/11 and the Birth of Living Torah

New film release from JEM explores the story and timing behind Living Torah’s beginnings 25 years ago.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, America awoke to a day that would change the world as we knew it.

That morning, it was unmistakable that a certain darkness was descending on the world.

Three miles from the World Trade Center, however, at the very moment the towers were struck, something very different was taking place: the first edition of a new JEM “video magazine,” named Living Torah, was being mastered for the very first time.

As the world was suddenly confronted with tremendous darkness, fear, and uncertainty, a new vehicle was taking shape to bring the Rebbe’s clear and steady voice—a voice of clarity and hope—to the world.

The timing was impossible to overlook.

That first Living Torah would mark the beginning of an extraordinary journey. From the program’s launch later that month until today, not a single week has passed without a new edition of Living Torah reaching audiences around the world.

Twenty-five years later, that mission has become ever more vital. In a world facing growing challenges, darkness, and confusion, the Rebbe’s words continue to reach millions with ever-greater relevance and clarity. Today, the Rebbe’s voice is further amplified through JEM’s social media platforms, reaching a vast audience from varied backgrounds around the world.

To mark the beginning of Living Torah’s 25th year, JEM has released a short film going behind the scenes of that first Living Torah—exploring the story of its creation, the remarkable timing of its beginnings, and the Rebbe’s timeless message of confronting darkness with light.
