Two Jews Stabbed in Golders Green Terror Attack

Two Jewish men were stabbed in London’s Golders Green neighborhood in what police have declared a terrorist incident, with Shomrim volunteers helping detain the knife-wielding suspect as Hatzola and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

Two Jewish men were stabbed Wednesday morning in Golders Green, London, in a terror attack outside a shul and along one of the busiest Jewish streets in the city.

The attack took place at around 11:20 AM on Golders Green Road and nearby Highfield Avenue, in the heart of north London’s Jewish community. The victims were two Jewish men, one in his 70s and one in his 30s. One was stabbed outside shops on Golders Green Road, while the other was stabbed on Highfield Avenue, outside a shul.

Shomrim said the attacker was “seen running along Golders Green Road armed with a knife and attempting to stab Jewish members of the public.”

“Shomrim responded immediately and detained the suspect,” the group said. “Police attended and deployed a taser. The male has now been arrested. Two victims have been stabbed and are being treated by Hatzola.”

Hatzola and London Ambulance Service treated the victims at the scene, and an air ambulance was dispatched as emergency responders rushed to Golders Green. The victims were taken to the hospital with stab wounds, and their condition was later reported as stable.

The suspect, identified by police only as a 45-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remained in custody. Police were working to establish his nationality and background.

The Metropolitan Police declared the stabbing a terrorist incident. The Met said that “specialist officers from Counter Terrorism Policing are leading the investigation and working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the full circumstances and any links to terrorism.”

Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, head of Counter Terrorism Policing, said the investigation was still in its early stages.

“Whilst I must stress this investigation is at an early stage, we are working quickly to understand exactly what happened,” Taylor said. “Thank you to those who were in the area at the time and supported the response to this terrible incident.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the stabbing as an antisemitic attack.

“The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling,” Starmer said. “Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain. Thank you to Shomrim, Hatzola and the police for acting swiftly. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan also condemned the attack.

“There has been an appalling attack on two Jewish Londoners in Golders Green,” Khan said. “The police have made an arrest, and I’d like to thank all the emergency services and heroic volunteers from Hatzola and Shomrim in the area for their swift response to this horrific incident.”

“London’s Jewish community has been the target of a series of shocking antisemitic attacks,” Khan added. “There must be absolutely no place for antisemitism in society. The Met have stepped up high-visibility patrols in the area.”

The attack came after a series of antisemitic incidents in north London, including the arson of four Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green last month and other recent attacks targeting shuls and Jewish sites.

Videos circulating from the scene showed the attacker chasing Jewish pedestrians, Shomrim and others moving in, and police pinning the suspect down after he was stopped. Local residents praised Shomrim and Hatzola for their immediate response.
