Unlike many schools in America that have vacation all summer, there is one school that took the Rebbe’s directive to heart to continue learning throughout summer, and only graduated this week.
The sweet sounds of melamdim teaching and children learning in Cheder Ohr Menachem has finally reached their climax. Reaching the milestone of learning until 7 Av, the boys are finally ready to complete this grade and step up to the next. While the last month was filled with loads of trips, fun, and activities, it’s time to graduate.
Monday, 6 Av the younger classes gathered in the Eshel Hall to celebrate this milestone. The graduation began with the emcee Rabbi Zalman Goldstein.
“Despite the fact that Tishah B’av is upon us, it is so special to experience the Halacha that children don’t stop their learning even for building the Beis Hamikdash – and that this is our day-to-day reality,” he shared.
A special letter of the Rebbe to a Chagigas HaSiyum was read by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hakohen Hendel. The Rebbe congratulated the talmidim, melamdim and parents on this milestone, and continued to explain the unique objectives of summer vacation.
First to shine were the kita alef student with their melamed Rabbi Baruch Paris who led the Hakhel in the 12 Pesukim. Then the menahel Rabbi Mendel Yusewitz read aloud the amazing achievements these boys accomplished with their melamed throughout this school year, along with a special unique area in which each student excelled.
After receiving their certificates, Rabbi Yossi Overlander the vice principal gave every boy the Sefer they were rewarded for their major achievements in Tanya Baal Peh this year!
Then it was kita beis’s turn to shine. Together with their melamed Rabbi Baruch Shalom Schwei they led the Hakhel of parents in singing the Rebbe’s Kapitel.
Then Rabbi Tanchum Abrams with his talmidim of kita gimmel presented their unbelievable success with the Tanya Baal Peh system. All Talmidim completed 6 perakim by heart! They all presented together perek vav in Tanya.
The culmination and the highlight of the graduation was seeing the talmidim receiving their Sefarim gifts for Tanya and Mishnayos Baal Peh.
Rabbi Chanoch Hecht, who coordinates the Tanya Baal Peh program gave the TBP update and tremendous progress report:
“Talmidim will know 12 Pirkei Tanya ‘cold’ by Kita Hey.”
Rabbi Hecht then gave every boy in kita gimmel 3 sets of sefarim as a well deserved prize.
Even in the coming short three weeks until Rosh Chodesh Elul, Cheder Ohr Menachem also has a program for the boys who want to continue learning and davening in a chassidishe fun environment in Machane Moshiach – Pocono, as well as the Ohr Menachem-Day Camp for the younger grades.
All left uplifted as smiling talmidim eagerly look forward to next year in a higher grade, in Yerushalayim with Moshiach now!
Why do you have to compliment a school by putting down other schools??

Fyi Cheder in Chicago in Toronto also just finished there school year, could be other schools as well but I don’t know
Why such a negative reaction?
By the end of the day, look at all other schools in CH and – fine, most – other school’s around don’t follow the Rebbe’s derctive which we know the Rebbe is very passionate about this, not to close schools.
I am just wondering, why does it bother you so much? Why are you so defensive?
I don’t personally have any children there, but i dont put them down – on the contrary, i respect them and i know that they are right.
Iy”h we will merit this 9 Av with the Rebbe in the third Beis Hamikdash!
So let’s understand, the Rebbe’s own school that the Rebbe himself opened never followed the Rebbes school Calendar?

Whenever the Rebbe spoke about the problem of the American summer Vacation the Rebbe gave a solution which was camp.
To say that Gan Yisroel’s were not made for Lubavitch children is historically incorrect. Look at facts!
So what’s going on here?
So what happened, a group of people with great intentions (with Israeli background, which takes a big part in there agendas) thought that this is what the Rebbe wants.

טוענים שרחמנות היא על הילדים שהתייגעו במשך עשרה חדשים, הלכו יום יום (חמשה או ששה ימים בשבוע) ללמוד תורה ולא הניחום לשחק ולהשתעשע בשעות אלו – צריכים לתת להם מנוחה… אי אפשר ולא שייך לנוח מחיים! מנוחה מחיים היא ר”ל היפך המנוחה… רחמנא ליצלן מדיבורים כאלה ועאכו”כ כאשר הדיבור מביא לידי פעולה.
ומה שייך טענה שהילדים “התייגעו” (“אפגעמאטערט”) במשך שנת הלימודים – הם לא התייגעו, אדרבה – הם צמחו וחיו במשך חדשים אלו …
באמת היו צריכים להרעיש עולמות – היתכן שסוגרים חדר בית ספר ות”ת במשך כל ימות הקיץ?! כיצד יתכן לסגור “בית חיים” למעליותא, בית של “התורה היא חיינו” – גם ליום אחד בשנה ומה גם במשך כמה שבועות וחדשים!
טוענים שאין למוסדות די כסף להשאר פתוחים גם בימות הקיץ, אבל מה ערך לטענה של “כסף” כאשר המדובר בענין של חיים, ובפרט חיים של ילדים שהוא בבחינת פירות העושים פירות זרעם וזרע זרעם עד סוף כל העולם! …
הנהגה האמורה נובעת מכך שחושבים שהתורה ניתנה ח״ו לייגע (“מאטערן”) את ישראל… התורה ניתנה כדי שיהי׳ טוב גם בחיים הגשמיים של יהודי …
ובנוגע לפועל – הענין שהזמן גרמא:
היות וישנם החושבים שבבוא ימי הקיץ שנקראו בפי העולם “זמן החופש״ – הרי זה זמן של ״חופשה״ גם מיהדות, ש״משחררים״ אותו מלימוד התורה וקיום המצווה.
– רחמנא ליצלן מהאי דעתא! לא זה ״חופש״, כ״א אדרבה – עי״ז הוא נעשה ״עבד עבדים״ ליצר הרע ו״גוי׳שקייט״! אלא שהעבדות גדולה עד כדי כך, עד ששמים עבדות לחירות!… –
יש לעשות ככל האפשרי שלא זו בלבד שילדי ישראל לא ימעטו ח”ו מתלמוד תורה בימי החופש, אלא אדרבה, מכיון שמשחררים אותם מלימודי חול הרי דוקא בזמן החופש ניתנה האפשרות להוסיף עוד יותר בלימוד התורה.
– חלק של זמן פנוי הנ”ל אפשר אמנם להרשות לילדים לשחק כו’ בשביל חיזוק בריאות הגוף – כי גם זה הוא ענין של קדושה שכן אצל “גוי קדוש” גם הגוף הוא גוף קדוש. אבל מ”מ ודאי הדבר אשר חלק חשוב של זמן זה יש להקדיש להוספה בלימוד התורה ולימוד התורה לאמיתתו, כלומר: לימוד המביא לידי מעשה שהילדים יוסיפו גם ב”מעשה” ע”פ תורה קיום מצוות התורה.
וברור הדבר, דכאשר יעשו תעמולה בזה בדברים היוצאים מן הלב – יכנסו הדברים אל הלב, ויפעלו פעולתם. כי המתנהגים באופן שונה, הוא רק מחמת טעות שאין לה אחיזה במציאות (כנ״ל), והוא רק ענין של “חושך”…

If you look up the history you will see that camps (like English studies in some schools) were established for non-frum children. In fact, Gan Yisroel Parksville was catering to non-frum children as well until fairly recently.

i would go to the opposite direction: where do we find that the Rebbe was ok with chadorim and yeshivos closing at all, even for 3 weeks? in the Rebbe’s koch of a beis hachayim not being closed, that includes every day of the year, not just chodesh tammuz. the idea of kepping schools open until now is how the chareidi schools system works in eretz yisroel, and has nothing to do with the Rebbe’s outlook. once upon a time, the yeshiva in lud went straight through the summer without vacation (like 770 is) until slowly things progressed until they just became ככל הגוים בית ישראל.

You guys are hilarious! you say that the yeshiva is closing and in the same article you write that you are fulfilling the Rebbe’s directive NOT to close schools for the summer!

Of course, one month off is better then two months off. but don’t claim you are doing what the Rebbe requested/decryed (almost every single year)
A common misunderstanding of the Rebbe’s approach is that people believe the Rebbe doesn’t understand that SOME kids and teachers do need a break from school. The Rebbe’s main complaint is on the MOISAD that it should be open all year (and, at least, if someone WANTS to learn he shouldn’t find the school’s doors closed rachmona latzlan היל”ת.
