Every year before Rosh Hashana, the Rebbe would write a letter addressed to “The Sons and Daughters of Our People Israel, Everywhere” containing an inspiring message and a call to action for the New Year. This week’s issue contains those letters, as well as letters on Jewish unity.
Every year before Rosh Hashana, the Rebbe would write a letter addressed to “The Sons and Daughters of Our People Israel, Everywhere” containing an inspiring message and a call to action for the New Year. In later years, these letters were serialized, with two or more letters appearing in the days leading up to Yomtov. Published at the beginning of the booklet is the Rebbe’s first circular letter written for the New Year of 5744 (1984). The Rebbe’s follow-up letters will be published in next week’s issue, G-d willing.
The second half of the booklet focuses on the subject of Jewish unity. In the Likkutei Torah of this week, The Alter Rebbe explains that unity is the prerequisite for crowning G-d on Rosh Hashana. It is for this reason, the Alter Rebbe explains, that we read Parshas Nitzavim before Rosh Hashanah — for the beginning of Parshas Nitzavim speaks of Jewish unity.
Recently, Rebbe Rebbe Responsa published a Teshura, for the wedding of the co-founder of Rebbe Responsa, with many historic newly released letters. In the fifteen letters from 1944, one can see the Rebbe’s tremendous involvement in the establishment of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and the great care the Rebbe had for the Jewish soldiers fighting in WWII.
Additionally, in the Teshurah many other letters are published, including a brief biography and letters to Max Schrieber, a philanthropist who oversaw the construction of over three hundred Mikvaos.
Rebbe Responsa kindly requests anyone who may be in possession of letters of the Rebbe in English, to send them by email so that these unique treasures can benefit the public.
These selected letters are sourced from the extensive collection of over 5,000 English letters written by the Rebbe, accessible through the Rebbe Responsa app.
