“The Ministry of Interior announced that the UAE authorities have arrested in record time the three perpetrators involved in the murder of Zvi Kogan, a Moldovan national, according to his identification documents at the time of entry into the UAE, where he lived as a resident. The Ministry reiterated the UAE’s unwavering capability to decisively address any attempts to undermine the security and stability of its society.”

“Upon receiving a missing person report from the victim’s family, the Ministry further explained that a specialized search and investigation team was promptly assembled. This effort led to the discovery of the victim’s body, the identification and arrest of the perpetrators, and the initiation of the necessary legal procedures. Full details of the incident will be disclosed upon the conclusion of the investigations.”

“The Ministry affirmed that the UAE and its institutions are fully committed to safeguarding the safety and security of its citizens, residents, and visitors. It emphasized that the nation’s security apparatus maintains the highest standards of security and safety, which have been fundamental to the UAE since its founding. Additionally, the Ministry stressed that it will utilize all legal powers to respond decisively and without leniency to any actions or attempts that threaten societal stability.”

This is the second statement from the United Arab Emirates government that has only referred to Rabbi Kogan as a “Moldovan national”, although he holds Israeli citizenship as well.

“Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed its readiness to implement all necessary deterrent measures to protect social harmony and peaceful coexistence, strictly adhering to the nation’s laws and regulations.”

On Thursday afternoon, Rabbi Kogan failed to show up for scheduled meetings he had during the day. After he failed to make contact, his wife contacted the security officer of the Chabad house, who alerted the local authorities. Information about the incident was also shared with the Israeli authorities. On Friday night, Israeli police officials went to his parent in Ramat Shalom to inform them of the news.

Rabbi Kogan was last seen at his grocery store Rimon. After he left the store, reports are that he drove off his car was found abandoned in Al Ain, 150 km from Abu Dhabi by Al Ain, approximately an hour and a half from Dubai. His car was later found abandoned, and his phone was turned off.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three individuals from Uzbekistan followed him after he left the market, where they kidnapped him and then murdered him.

Israel’s Channel 11 reported that the rabbi had been kidnapped by a cell directed by Iran, which apparently managed to escape to Turkey. The Ynet report also confirmed that the perpetrators are believed to have fled to Turkey.

After extensive coordinated efforts by multiple international security agencies, Emirati authorities recovered Rabbi Kogan’s body early Sunday morning and notified his family.

Senior Israeli officials told Walla News that the focus of investigations was “a terrorist squad of Uzbek origin that operated in Dubai on behalf of Iran and allegedly carried out the abduction and then fled to Turkey.”

The Mossad and the Israeli National Security Council say Israel’s intelligence indicated “he may have been under surveillance by terrorist elements,” the Walla report added.

  1. Did he not have Israeli citizenship? Seems like the Abraham accords are just a peace on paper as are the others.
