During the Kinus Hashluchim currently taking place in Alma Ata, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky announced that the Shluchim Simcha Fund, which provides grants to shluchim for family events, would be relaunching in the near future.

The Shluchim Simcha Fund ran for a number of years in the past, providing significant sums to shluchim celebrating the birth of a child, bar mitzvah, wedding or other simcha in their family. In the coming weeks the fund will relaunch, running as a pilot program until the Kinus Hashluchim.

Rabbi Kotlarsky made the announcement during his address at the opening session of the regional Kinus Hashluchim for the shluchim of the Former Soviet Union taking place in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan. The Kinus was scheduled to coincide with Chof Av, granting the shluchim the opportunity to daven at the Ohel of the ba’al hilula, Harav Levi Yiztchok Schneerson.

The fund, which is being launched by Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch in conjunction with Keren Hashluchim, aims to ease some of the financial burden from shluchim who are celebrating simchos in their family.

“The Rebbe wrote that when there is great success, the satan sets up bigger challenges, and we have seen tremendous challenges in the past months,” Rabbi Kotlarsky said. “I came to the conclusion that as a response, we must increase in our activities.”

Over the next weeks, a number of new initiatives will be announced to aid shluchim, he said. Each will be launched after the funding is secured from a group of generous donors.
