On a visit to Eretz Yisroel earlier this week, Chief Rabbi of Russia and shliach Rabbi Berel Lazar officiated at the wedding of the son of Israeli diamond magnate and philanthropist Lev Leviev. While there, he took the opportunity to visit rabbonim and rebbes, extending invitations to them for his daughter’s wedding, which will take place in Eretz Yisroel next month.
Rabbi Lazar’s daughter will be marrying the son of the Chief Rabbi of Odesa, Ukraine, Rabbi Avrohom Wolf. Due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, neither side could travel to the other’s territory, leading to the decision to hold the chassunah next month in Eretz Yisroel.
During his meetings with the rabbonim and rebbes, Rabbi Lazar presented copies of his new sefer, Shlach Lachmecha, which contains shiurim, droshos, and explanations on Torah delivered over decades at the Marina Roscha shul and Tomchei Tmimim of Moscow. He was warmly received, and he engaged in lengthy discussions on Torah and the state of Yiddishkeit in Russia.
One of his visits brought him to the Machnovka-Belz shul in Bnei Brak, where he was honored with an aliyah to the Torah, using a sefer Torah attributed to the Baal Shem Tov.
Rabbi Lazar met with rebbes of large Chassidusin in Eretz Yisroel including the Gerrer Rebbe; the Vizhnitzer Rebbe, R’ Yisroel Hager; the Tzanzer Rebbe; the Tchernobiler Rebbe; the Machnovka-Belz Rebbe; the Lelover Rebbe; the Boyaner Rebbe; the Pinsk-Karliner Rebbe; the Kopishnitzer Rebbe; the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok Rebbe; the Modzhitzer Rebbe; the Nadvorna Rebbe, the Sadigura Rebbe; and the Breslover mashpia R’ Yaakov Meir Schechter.
He also met with numerous distinguished rabbonim, including Ponovezh Rosh Yeshivah R’ Berel Povarzki; Raavad of the Eida Hachareidis R’ Moshe Shternbuch; R’ Shimon Galai; R’ Yosef Yitzchok Belinov; and the newly elected Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, R’ David Yosef.
In a meeting with the senior Noroler Rebbe, the Noroler Rebbe shared memories from growing up in Crown Heights next to the Rebbe.
