R’ Yehuda Zev Gottesman, a longtime resident of Montreal, Canada passed away on Monday, 30 Sivan, 5783.

He was 70 years old.

Born in Eretz Yisroel, Yehuda was raised in Gary, Indiana. At the age of 14, Yehuda came to Montreal to learn in Yeshivas Tomchei Tmimim in the 1960s and remained there ever since.

Over the coming decades, Yehuda became a fixture in the Montreal Chabad community.

For many years, he worked in a senior management position at Air Canada and later worked at Beis Rivkah of Montreal and the Montreal Torah Center.

He served in many of the communal mosodos including Hatzalah, Chevra Kadisha and Gemilas Chassadim. For a period of time, he also served as the gabbai for the Yeshiva shul, and later as the president of the ‘R’ Zalman Marasow Shtibel’.

During a yechidus he had with the Rebbe, Yehuda asked how he could make Torah and mitzvos natural to him. In response, the Rebbe advised him to learn Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. Ever since then, he would study Kitzur Shulchan Aruch every single day after davening shacharis, for over five decades.

Even though he had many challenges in life, Yehuda always had a smile and was always looking for a way to help another Yid.

He is survived by his wife Bassy Gottesman (nee Goldshmit).

The levaya will be held on in Montreal on Monday night, passing Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch. It will continue on Tuesday in New York, passing 770 at 12:00 pm and kevurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

Baruch Dayan Haemes.
