Mrs. Taibel Brod, a longtime resident of Crown Heights and the matriarch of a large Anash family, passed away on Acharon Shel Pesach after a car accident.
She was 99 years old.
Mrs. Brod was born in Kremenchug and raised in a home steeped in mesirus nefesh and chassidishkeit. Her father, Reb Yitzchok Dovid HaLevi Gurchover, was a proud tomim who risked his life to perform shechitah and bris milah. During the war years, he fled to Siberia, where he worked tirelessly to establish a mikvah and shul for the local Yidden.
After the war, in the Poking DP camp in Germany, Taibel married Rabbi Chatzkel Brod. A few years later, she and her husband made their way to the United States, where, with the Rebbe’s bracha and guidance, her husband opened a kosher butcher shop in Crown Heights. For many years, the Rebbe himself was among his regular customers.
She was sadly struck by a car earlier this Pesach, and she passed away on Acharon Shel Pesach.
She is survived by her children: Mrs. Chavi Chazan (Nachalas Har Chabad), Mrs. Shterna Weiss (Crown Heights), Rabbi Yossel Brod (Los Angeles, CA), Rabbi Sholom Ber Brod (Crown Heights), and Rabbi Yisroel Brod (Kfar Chabad, EY); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rabbi Chatzkel Brod.
Her levaya will pass 770 today at 10:45 am.
