A man was arrested on Tuesday after breaking the gate surrounding the Rayim Ahuvim shul in Crown Heights.

The man, a white middle-aged male, was loitering in the area of the shul on Schenectady Ave and Carroll Street shirtless when he was noticed by local residents.

The residents called Shomrim who responded and observed the male acting suspiciously with a big metal bar in his hands.

A short while later, Shomrim observed that the man was damaging shul property, and they intervened calling on him to stop the vandalism. He also turned toward one of the volunteers, threatening to strike him with a metal bar. The volunteers were able to professionally de-escalate the situation until 911 arrived and promptly placed him under arrest.
