Meir Alfasi, a Lubavitcher photographer known for his travels to over one hundred countries, continues to surprise his followers – this time with a rare journey to Bangladesh, the most densely populated Muslim country in the world. There, he documented a unique fishing tribe that uses trained otters to help catch fish.

On his ongoing travels across the globe, Alfasi seeks out remote and unexpected corners of the world. Though he’s already visited more than a hundred countries, this latest stop stands out for its rarity and character.

While in Bangladesh, he met a local tribe that lives along the rivers and upholds an ancient and fascinating tradition: fishing with the help of otters. The otters are raised as part of the family and trained to assist in catching fish – a practice passed down through generations.
