Lubavitcher Assaulted on Shabbos in Berlin
A Lubavitcher was assaulted while walking home from shul with his children in Berlin on Shabbos, until an Israeli bystander rushed in and held the attacker until police arrived.
A Lubavitcher from the Chabad community in Berlin was assaulted in an antisemitic attack on Shabbos afternoon while walking home from shul with his two young children.
Rabbi Aviezer Kantor, a member of the Chabad community in Berlin and a mashgiach at the local Chabad House, was walking with his children in the Charlottenburg district when an Arab attacker approached him, threatened and insulted him, and then physically assaulted him.
The attack took place on Uhlandstraße at around 3:15 PM, as Rabbi Kantor was returning home from davening. The attacker also spat at Rabbi Kantor and toward his children, in a shocking attack on a visibly Jewish father and his family.
An Israeli who witnessed the attack immediately intervened, overpowered the attacker, and held him until police arrived at the scene.
Berlin police arrested the suspect and took him into custody. Police said they are investigating the incident and looking into the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
Baruch Hashem, Rabbi Kantor and his children are safe, and no injuries were reported.
