Kingston Organization Distributes Nearly $80K to Local Families

As Sukkos approaches, dozens of families in Kingston, Pennsylvania, are heading into Yom Tov with added financial relief, thanks to a major grant disbursement facilitated by the local Tomchei Shabbos.

Close to $80,000 in assistance was distributed to families in the community ahead of the Yomim Tovim, helping cover the significant expenses that come with preparing for Yom Tov.

The distribution included direct financial assistance along with additional Yom Tov support—significant cash, grocery credit, and supplies for each family—with the goal of allowing families to prepare for Sukkos with dignity and peace of mind.

The effort comes as Kingston’s growing Jewish community continues to expand—over 30 anash families moved in this summer—bringing with it an increasing need for structural communal support.

Tomchei Shabbos works throughout the year to assist local families facing financial pressure, with particularly large produce and pantry item distributions taking place around the Yomim Tovim, together with checks made out directly to families and a dignified clothing sale.

This year’s groundbreaking effort was made possible through the support of donors from within Kingston and generous benefactors from beyond. Local volunteers helped coordinate and prepare the distribution.

In addition to the substantial financial assistance, approximately 100 Yom Tov packages were prepared for local families, with dozens of teens from the community volunteering to help pack them, and hardworking individuals coordinating pickup and hand-delivering boxes.

Tomchei Shabbos founders said the goal was to make sure families could enter Yom Tov focused on the simcha of Sukkos, without the added stress of struggling to cover basic Yom Tov expenses.

“Every contribution translated directly into helping another family,” organizers said. “The generosity of our donors allowed us to provide a level of support that made a real difference for many families.”

With Sukkos approaching, Tomchei Shabbos is continuing to raise funds to support families both over Yom Tov and throughout the coming year.
