In the Heart of Cambodia, Chabad Thrives with Torah

In the far-flung corner of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, local shliach and visiting bochurim made sure to host a Kinus Torah on Pesach. Their chidushim in Nigleh and Chassidus were now published in an impressive Kovetz Kinus Torah for all to study.

Chabad of Cambodia has published the fourth volume of its Kovetz Kinus Torah, featuring shiurim and haoros delivered during Chol Hamoed Pesach.

The Kinus Torah in Cambodia began in 5771, initiated by visiting bochurim Rabbi Nissan Moscowitz and Rabbi Shmuel Naparstek. As the number of Jewish visitors to the country grew, additional sedarim were added in 5774, 5776, and 5778. During busy years, up to six bochurim are sent to assist the shluchim.

This Pesach, hundreds of Jews participated in communal sedarim and received shmura matza, while dozens more in remote locations received shmura matza before Yom Tov. Following Yom Tov, the bochurim transcribed the shiurim for publication.

The new kovetz includes shiurim spanning Nigleh and Chassidus. Rabbi Bentzion Butman, Head Shliach to Cambodia, contributed an analysis on the Shivas Yemei Hamiluim in Parshas Tetzaveh and Parshas Tzav. Hatomim Menachem Mendel Goldschmid of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim 770 discussed transitions within Seder Hishtalshelus. Hatomim Menachem Mendel Zaklikovsky, also learning in 770, wrote on three levels of ratzui in avodah.

In Nigleh, Hatomim Schneur Zalman Butman, learning in Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Migdal HaEmek, wrote on the geder of the chiyuv of meshlaim b’miktzas nizko. Young shliach Moshe Butman explored whether making noise on Shabbos for purposes other than music is permitted.

The kovetz is dedicated l’iluy nishmas R’ Yisrael Aryeh Leib, the Rebbe’s brother, who passed away on Yud-Gimmel Iyar 5712.
