Ground Broken for Special Needs Center in Bashkortostan Republic

During the 50th birthday celebrations for Rabbi Dan Krichevsky, shliach to the Republic of Bashkortostan, a cornerstone-laying ceremony took place for an educational center dedicated to children with special needs, as well as a siyum sefer Torah.

Earlier this month, Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar paid a special visit to the city of Ufa, capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, as part of a significant trip marking the 50th birthday celebrations of the local rov and shliach, Rabbi Dan Krichevsky.

During his visit, Rabbi Lazar participated in several notable events highlighting the growth and vitality of Yiddishkeit in the region. A key moment of the trip was the cornerstone-laying ceremony for a future educational center dedicated to children with special needs, a major initiative expected to have a meaningful impact on the local community.

Rabbi Lazar also held a formal meeting with the Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan at his official residence. Rabbi Krichevsky joined the meeting as well, during which they discussed the flourishing of the Jewish community in the region, as well as the ongoing needs and challenges it faces.

The highlight of the visit was a deeply moving Hachnasas Sefer Torah, held with great joy and kavod. The new Torah was generously donated by Azriel Davidov, brother of Rabbi Yehuda Davidov of Moscow, and will serve as a powerful addition to the Ufa Jewish community’s spiritual infrastructure.

The visit brought much encouragement to the local kehillah, reflecting the warm relationship between the central rabbinical leadership and the far-reaching Chabad shluchim across the Russian Federation.
