Following the enthusiastic response to the first installment, Machon Gaaguim Nigunei Chabad has released the second part of its “Davenen Mit a Niggun” project, featuring familiar sections of davening sung to niggunim taught by the Rebbe.

The new release, presented in honor of Chodesh Elul, was published as a wedding memento in honor of the marriage of Yosef Yitzchak and Chaya Mushka Amar.

The project features Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar singing nine selections from the Shacharis davening of Shabbos and weekdays, set to niggunim taught by the Rebbe over the years. The melodies are carefully adapted to the words of davening, with the goal of bringing greater chayus, pnimius and dveikus into the avodah of tefillah.

The project draws inspiration from the Rebbe’s words on Shabbos Parshas Beshalach 5752, when the Rebbe spoke of an additional and central lesson from the concept of song as it relates to avodas hatefillah: that davening itself should be carried out in a manner of song, expressing dveikus and connection to Hashem, in preparation for the “Shir Chadash” of the Geulah.

“Davenen Mit a Niggun,” as its name suggests, seeks to bring niggun directly into the experience of davening.

The concept developed in the Ohr Menachem community in Ashdod, which includes hundreds of mekuravim, many of whom have over the years become fully integrated Chassidim. There, the approach has helped give the Shabbos davening a distinctive warmth and chayus, with a slower pace and an atmosphere of longing and connection.

Organizers say the recordings can also be incorporated into Shacharis in schools, yeshivos and Anash communities, helping transform davening from routine recitation into an “avodah shebalev,” with feeling, patience and greater attention to pirush hamilos and the meaning of each word.

The first installment of the project received tens of thousands of listens and numerous positive responses, prompting the release of this second collection.

The vocals on the new release are performed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Amar and his sons. Arrangement and mixing are by Elor Velner, with clarinet by Meir Velner. The lyric video was produced by Menachem Goldstein of Pirsum Shero’im.

A publication about the topic of nigunim in davening was also published. Download it here.
