Chabad Singers Perform New Energetic Duet

French Chabad singer Menachem Levy welcomes Simcha Friedman for an energetic rendition of the well-known Chabad niggun “Vayivchar B’Dovid,” the latest release from Levy’s forthcoming album of Chabad niggunim.

French Chabad singer Menachem Levy has released a lively new duet with chassidic singer Simcha Friedman, performing the well-known Chabad niggun “Vayivchar B’Dovid.”

The niggun was introduced in honor of the Rebbe’s 77th birthday in 5739, when words from the Rebbe’s new Kapitel Tehillim, Kapitel 78, were adapted to the melody. The tune is attributed to R’ Zalman Levitan of Haditch.

The words describe how Hashem chose Dovid Hamelech from among the sheep and appointed him to shepherd the Jewish people. The Midrash explains that Dovid was chosen after demonstrating exceptional care as a shepherd, bringing each group of sheep to graze according to its strength and needs.

The new duet is part of an ambitious album of Chabad niggunim that Levy has been developing in recent years. The project has already featured Avraham Fried in a stirring performance, with additional singers expected to join Levy for further duets.
