The original song tells the story of a tzaddik who notices a leaf covering a worm and sets out to uncover the precise hashgacha pratis through which Hashem looks after every creature in the world.
The song was previously popularized by Fried, who performed it in both Yiddish and Hebrew. He is now bringing the beloved song to English-speaking audiences, allowing those who do not understand Yiddish to appreciate its powerful message.
“My heartfelt thanks to the Ehrlich family and the M’chon Yiddish Nachas for permission to bring this gem to an English-speaking audience,” Fried said. “Written by R’ Yom Tov Ehrlich, the great master of Yiddish song, it can now be enjoyed by those who don’t understand Yiddish.”
This is the second of R’ Yom Tov Ehrlich’s songs that Fried has released in English, following his version of “Shabbos Kodesh.” Fried has also announced that he is working on an English version of another beloved song by R’ Yom Tov Ehrlich, “Yaakov.”
