The ‘Ask the Rav’ website is celebrating 2,000 questions and answers published on our website database with a list of their most commonly asked Q&As on ‘Ma’aser’.
The website features thousands of Halachic Questions and Answers, answered by a team overseen by Harav Yosef Braun of the Crown Heights Beis Din, and directed by Rabbi Levi Goldgrab.
“Thanks to our subscribers and their dedication to Halacha we’ve hit 2,000 questions and answers published on our website database, plus, close to 12,000 total questions asked and answered since our inception,” the Ask the Rav team said.
To mark the milestone, the team compiled a list of Q&As on Ma’aser, the obligation to give one-tenth of your income to tzedaka.
“You’ll be sure to find below many questions you may have had about Ma’aser but may not have had whom to ask,” they said.
Can I use Ma’aser money for…?
“Your Ma’aser Guide”
Ma’aser money should ideally be given to Tzedakah to support the needy.
Alternatively, it may be used to pay for non-obligatory Mitzvos. But not for a Mitzvah that one is obligated to do, and thus would regardless spend that money.
As a general rule: When spending Ma’aser on something it may be spent on, one should always explore if there are cheaper options available, just as you would if you were using personal non-Maaser money.
Remember, Hashem says: Test Me. Ma’aser is a sure investment!
