As El Al Airlines resumed flights to New York after months of canceled flights, Chabad of the Airport swung back into action, offering tefillin and a parting blessing to travelers.

El Al scaled back flights in March and suspended all its flights in July, amid a worldwide coronavirus lockdown. The shutdown effectively put Chabad of the Airport’s operations on hold, as the terminal would be empty with few ‘customers’ for tefillin.

After the purchase of El Al at the hands of a 27-year-old yeshiva bochur, the airline announced they would resume New York flights beginning October 1st, with other routes following in the coming days.

As soon as the first flight was scheduled, Chabad of the Airport, founded by Rabbi Kuti Rapp a”h, and led by Rabbi Yossi Rapp, got ready to resume operations as well, offering travelers the chance the put on tefillin, sign up their children for a letter in the Children’s Sefer Torah, or grab a drink before their flight.
