A Warm Haven in Frozen Alaska

On Chai Elul in the Shnas Hashivim of the Rebbe’s nesius, Chabad of Wasilla, Alaska, got a new home with the opening of the Mat-Su Jewish Center.

Shluchim Rabbi Mendy and Chaya Greenberg moved to Wasilla four years ago just before Rosh Hashana. Rabbi Greenberg grew up an hour away in Anchorage, Alaska.

The community welcomed them with great excitement, and over the past four years, participation in the Jewish center’s activities has grown. The new center, which was dedicated just before the High Holidays, is spacious and tastefully set up for minyanim and a wide variety of community activities.

The grand opening was attended by local dignitaries and elected officials, and was held with great support from the local community. The center, which is the first shul in Wasilla, also hosts a preschool, Hebrew school, holiday events and shiurim.

The building was made possible by Mr. George Rohr and many local donors, and was brought about through the efforts of Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky. Both Rabbi Kotlarsky and Mr. Rohr are known for their dedication to the Rebbe’s work and the shluchim.
