As we approach the new year, we naturally think about how we can deepen our experience of Elul and Tishrei.

These two months are packed with meaning. Across the many sichos and maamarim of the Rebbeim, every Yom Tov, every minhag, and every detail opens into an entire world. Yet in practice, there is rarely enough time to enter that world properly.

Elul comes together with the end of the summer and the beginning of a new school year. Tishrei moves quickly from one Yom Tov to the next. We try to make time during the week or on Shabbos to learn a sicha; we prepare for davening with a maamar Chassidus; and that learning gives us the energy and perspective with which to approach these special days.

But even after learning what we can, there is often a thirst for something more: to understand the broader picture. What is the deeper meaning of these days? What is Chassidus teaching us about the avodah of Elul, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur? What lies behind Sukkos, the Daled Minim and Simchas Beis Hashoeivah? What is the inner significance of Simchas Torah and Hakafos?

It was to answer this need that a new sefer has now been published.

Rather than presenting a collection of separate short essays, this sefer offers a comprehensive overview of the Chassidic understanding of each Yom Tov and special date throughout the year, including many of the individual details and minhagim associated with them.

From the Rebbe’s explanation of HaMelech BaSadeh to the deeper meaning of Chamishah Asar B’Av, the sefer gives the reader a richer appreciation of the entire Jewish calendar.

Based on hundreds of sichos, maamarim, and letters of the Rebbeim, it serves both as an accessible introduction for someone beginning to explore Chassidus and as a valuable overview and summary for a Chabad Chassid who has learned many of these ideas over the years.
