As we mark the yahrzeit of the Rebbe’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, JEM is proud to present a brand-new short film.

Featuring in-depth insights from renowned scholar Rabbi Shais Taub, along with newly recorded historical commentary from JEM Executive Director Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin and fascinating, never-before-seen documents, the film traces Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s unwavering stand against Soviet oppression, his refusal to abandon his community despite mounting persecution, and the remarkable story behind the letter he wrote to his son, the future Rebbe. 

Amid the hardships of Soviet rule, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak received a simple gift from his son, the Rebbe: a pair of shoes. His heartfelt letter of thanks, however, reveals far more than gratitude. Within its lines lies a message that reflects Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s unwavering worldview and offers a timeless perspective on finding purpose, even in the face of adversity.
